Floor Sanding Grades

Sanding a wood floor is a multi step process.

Floor sanding grades. It can be made from the grains of a natural mineral called garnet or from synthetic ones like aluminum oxide alumina zirconia or silicone carbide. The only exception would be a clear satin finish in which case you may want. If this is the first or second drum sanding then feel free to lay down hard on those floors with a coarser grit provided the floor has imperfections that warrant this. The lower the grade the rougher the sandpaper.

We generally use this grit when first smoothing pine redwood cedar. Sandpaper grits for wooden flooring generally range from 16 through to 150 grit with 16 being the most aggressive and 150 the finest. Not only would i advise against sanding i would advise you to lay down all new floors. Change the grade of abrasive on the belt sander to a finer grit size and repeat sanding over the floor.
